De Stoffeerder BVBA a family business founded by Felix Van der Straeten in 1966. He started with a small atelier in Sint-Gillis Dendermonde. Felix himself used to work as furniture maker and his wife Jeanne Smet seamstress. Only after few years the workspace became too small for the new business, and they moved to a new atelier in Buggenhout.
Earlier the company’s name was Van der Straeten & Zoon. In general it was specialized in fabricating new salons and seats which later would be sold overall in BeNeLux. But with affluence of cheap salons from Italy, Felix Van der Straeten started to receive more and more demands about re-upholstery from the shops, with who he worked. Back in the times he had a team of four colleagues.

In 1998 Walter Van der Straeten, son of Felix, took over the business and started to advertise re-upholstery among the locals in Buggenhout area. With his education as woodworker, he could expand the production till team of 10 co-workers.

These days the third generation of Van der Straeten family is also in business. Sven, son of Walter, has diploma in inferior design from Sint-Lukas college in Brussels, also he did two-years education as upholsterer in TSM Mechelen.

Thanks to his professional background and expanded connections in the world of interior, De Stoffeerder re-upholstery house has now more clients as interior designers and architects. Who made it possible for us to work with big chains of shops and restaurants.

Two years ago our new show-room was inaugurated. Since then we also started to work with window-decoration. So now wife of Walter and mother of Sven – Marleen – is also in the business.

As you can see, we are family-business from every angle.
